Dating Chinese women is a blast, let’s face it. They have a form and beauty that is unmatched in this world: long shining black hair, perfect skin, shy smiles–what more could you ask for?
Chinese beauty is something that has been talked about by western men for centuries. Ever since Marco Polo first visited China in the 13th century, western men have been fascinated with sexy Chinese women. Back in Marco Polo’s time, men would trade small woodcut drawings and paintings of Chinese women they had bought on their trips to the Far East, much like men in the 18th and 19th centuries traded postcards of exotic Asian beauties, and much like we save profile pics from sites like chinalovematch and the like.
(Come on, admit it. You know you do…)
But spending all this time and energy pondering over Asian beauty and discussing sexy Chinese women and drooling over china women pictures, a few stereotypes have grown into what passes for accepted knowledge.
Today we’re going to discuss some of the stereotypes of Asian women that are ridiculous and offensive, and some that are possibly offensive to some people, but which are nonetheless true.
Let’s face it, we all live up to our stereotypes from time to time. I have several friends from Texas in the US and we always make fun of how loud they get when we go out drinking. And how about the notion that old people drive slowly? Is anyone seriously going to argue with that?
And this is not to say that all stereotypes are all true 100 percent of the time. It’s merely to point out that these ideas come from somewhere.
Back to the stereotypes of Asian women. For some of the more ridiculous ones we have Hollywood to blame. Hollywood has never seen a non-Caucasian woman that it couldn’t turn into a caricature.
There’s the Asian Dragon Lady, a tired trope by which western men and women get to play out their darkest fantasies about the nefarious and cruel ideas that might be hiding behind the eyes of a sexy Chinese women.
There’s the Asian Math Nerd the poor clueless brainiac girl who can’t get a date or relate to another human being in any but the most awkward, uncomfortable way.
How about the Hot Asian Kung Fu Fighter girl? I hate to break to you guys, but your Chinese wife isn’t very likely to step up and whale on a bunch of tough guys who try to rob you in the street after a date.
No, what we are talking about here is reality, not Hollywood mythos that really needs to go away. If you are looking for dates or possibly marriage with an Asian lady the first thing you need to keep in mind is that she is a lady first–in other words a human being, not some exotic dream girl on whom to pin your adolescent fantasies.
But having said that, here are a few things you can probably count on for most Chinese girls you date:
- Strong family ties – This is an ancient trope but often true of most immigrant communities.
- Slow movers – If you have extensively dated Asian women, one thing you notice is that generally they aren’t going to move as fast as their western counterparts. It isn’t racist to point out that culturally speaking, China has a much more traditionally conservative outlook that we do in the west.
- Demure, not passive – back to another Hollywood myth, that all Asian women are shy little flowers: The truth within this notion though is that Asian women are more likely to let a man take lead rather than assert themselves in social situations. That’s not to say they won’t stand up for themselves or that they aren’t in control of their own lives. But if you are a more passive type guy, you might find yourself caught in an endless “I don’t know, what do you want to do” loop if you date Asian women.
Overall, just be aware that while we’re all different, we all come from a certain background too. It’s good to be aware of the possible differences!
